Sponsorship OpportunitiesWC&S holds two major agency-sponsored fundraisers each year. In May, we hold our Spring Clothes Out Event, and in November, we hold our Shop To Stop Domestic Violence Event.
We are always looking for generous corporate and business partners who would like to sponsor our events and become creators with us of violence-free homes and safe communities in our region. Wouldn't you like to join us in our mission of ending intimate partner violence in the lives of women and their children?
Please read the event descriptions below and don't hesitate to call our Development Department at 412-687-8017, ext. 331 if you would like to support our mission through sponsoring one of our special events!
UPMC Health Plan Spring Clothes Out
2008 marks the Women’s Center & Shelter’s first year with UPMC Health Plan as its naming sponsor for the18th Annual Spring Clothes Out Event. The event takes its name from the donations attendees give of gently worn business suites and dresses for clients who utilize resident and non-resident services offered by WC&S. The clothing donations enable the women to feel more confident about re-entering the work force or continuing employment without the stress of being able to afford business-appropriate clothing.
Typically, UPMC Health Plan Spring Clothes Out raises over $60,000 for the Women’s Center & Shelter and attracts 250 people each year. The event also honors an individual or group with the Ted Craig Humanitarian Award by choosing someone who has demonstrated a commitment to community service and demonstrated outstanding excellence and achievement in their profession or community in line with our mission of ending intimate partner violence. This year, the UPMC Health Plan Spring Clothes Out Committee is honoring the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Unit for their service and unprecedented work within the legal system and providing justice for women and children affected by intimate partner violence.
Past recipients of the Ted Craig Humanitarian Award include: Neighborhood Legal Services’ Pro Bono PFA Project, Dr. Mary Carrasco, Laura Stein, Pat Violi, the National Council of Jewish Women, Martha Friday, Donald Wolff, Jr., Audrey Hillman Fisher, Kathleen W. Buechel, Drew Mathieson, Barbara Mistick and Lois O’Connor.
Highmark Shop To Stop Domestic Violence
Entering its 6th year, Highmark Shop To Stop Domestic Violence is held in the fall at the Galleria of Mount Lebanon. The Galleria is closed to the general public so that attendees may enjoy and evening of discounted shopping, complimentary food, beverages, live musical entertainment, raffles, auctions, celebrities and more. Shop To Stop attracts some 500 people annually and is the only event of its kind in the region. It is a great way to kick off the holiday shopping season. The discounts from the Galleria merchants are the attendees' gift for coming to the event; ticket sales, sponsorship, and raffle and auction proceeds benefit WC&S.
